I made a volcano when I was young, but not out of vinegar and baking soda, no, that was to weak for my tastes. I needed something with a bit more power, a little more UMPH behind it, so I ground down 4 boxes of strike anywhere match heads, then ran a fuse from the paper-mache volcano….needless to say, it did erupt quite fiercly.

By erupt I mean completely destroyed itself and by fiercly I mean I found pieces of volcano about 100 feet from where it once stood. Apparently I made the hole in the top too small and the pressure couldn’t get out any faster, needless to say it was more of a bomb than a volcano.

I realized at one point that he must be very, very old, but then I realized, DUH …

Never made a volcano, but I still fill pretty complete having grown up on a farm with real natural phenomenon like tornadoes, floods, and ice storms.

7. Nobody can spell onomatopoeia correctly.

I never made a homemade volcano as a child. I guess I never was a child.

Also, I can spell onomatopoeia correctly. See, look. I did it without peeking.

Patti, Punxutawney Phil is the name of the Groundhog that predicts the weather each Groundhog Day. Onomatopoeia is quite the word.

Barbara: onomatopoeia is a word that sounds like it is describing. For instance, buzz or meow. Punxutawney Phil is the weather predicting groundhog. Marsupials are basically mammals with pouches, such as kangaroos.

Tara: haha, I may have been a tad bit generous with my phrasing.

Writer Dad: If I had a time machine, I would let you cut to the front of the line.

Maybe my childhood wasn’t complete either – I never made the volcano. But…I have made it with my kids – loads of fun!! And now they can say their childhood is complete!

The silly straw fact is so true and I, like writer dad, have an incomplete childhood since I never made a volcano. It’s never too late to make one though
